This department presents an assortment of Subaru service bulletins and time-saving tips useful to aftermarket technicians. Tips in this issue include changes to the 2007 Flines for Legacy and Outback models.
2007 Forester A/C Compressor Change
The A/C compressor used on 2007 Forester models changed on January 10, 2007. Please note the difference in part numbers and, most significantly, the amount of PAG oil used in the new compressor.
The old compressor, P/N 73111SA001, uses 150cc of oil, while the new compressor, P/N 73111SA010, uses 80cc.
The new style compressor can be easily identified by the changed configuration of the A/C pressure and return lines.
Be sure to check the air conditioner compressor for proper identification prior to servicing.
Erratic Tail Light Operation
If you encounter a customer concern of inoperative tail lights unless the parking switch on top of the steering column is turned on, check for a poor connection at the parking switch harness connector.
The battery power comes from the Main Fuse Box (under the hood) fuse #7 to the parking switch, before being switched out to the tail light illumination relay.
New Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor/Valve for Some 2008 Models
Beginning with the 2008 models, the tire pressure monitor system (TPMS) sensor/valve on Forester, Impreza and some Legacy models has changed.
In the past, the tire valve stem on TPMS-equipped models had gray-colored threads, cap and retaining collar. This type will continue to be used only on Legacy models with alloy wheels.
The new version is a black rubber stem with brass-colored threads. This new style will be used on 2008 Legacy H-6 Sedan, Spec-B, and models with steel wheels, plus all Forester and Impreza models.
Headlight Bulb Replacement
When replacing failed Legacy or Outback headlight bulbs, verify the color of the base around the harness connectors of both bulbs. Both headlight bulbs should be replaced ONLY if they are the “old” style with orange base. Otherwise, only replace the one bulb that is burned out. Here’s a handy set of rules:
- Orange Base = Old style; if one has failed, replace both.
- Black base = Temporary “new” style; only replace the failed bulb.
- Blue base = New style; only replace the failed bulb.orester A/C compressor, erratic tail light operation, the use of a new tire pressure monitor system (TPMS) sensor on some 2008 models and headlight bulb replacement guide
