Anyone with even a few months of automotive experience probably thinks they know how to do an engine compression test. When a cylinder falls out of line and fails to do its share of the work, the logical tool to reach for is a compression gauge. But there is more to a good compression test than simply unscrewing a plug or two, screwing a compression gauge into a hole, and cranking until the batter gets weak in the knees.
