In 1908, Ohioan Charles Kettering invented and patented a spark ignition system that we’re still using. (Some think he did this to keep Robert Bosch from inventing everything the the automotive world!) An adventuring pioneer in the development of the automobile, Kettering is also credited with the invention of the electric starter. His Dayton Engineering Laboratories Company would later become known simply as DELCO.
