Four Wheel Alignment

Import Service Article ImageWe didn’t know it at the time, but we always did four-wheel alignments. We just always did them wrong. Now put down your dukes! I don’t mean to pick a fight, just to point out something I flubbed, too. We could hardly have done much else with the equipment we had back in the dark days. Oh, you could back a car onto a rack and check toe and chamber. Then what? Bend the diff tube? Many cars of the time either had rear leaf springs or fixed link and coil spring suspension, neither of which wandered around much, unless the car did. Of course, the rear suspensions were also non-adjustable short of heroic, expensive measures. If they were right, they stayed right, mostly for the life of the car unless a spring locater pin sheared, the links bent or the bushings failed. And if they were wrong, the same was just as true.
