Import Service Article Image What is a relay? A relay is an electro-mechanical device that is used to control a large current with a small current. A relay contains a coil and a mechanical spring-loaded switch. The switch contacts are held in the OFF position by a spring tension. Contacts in the OFF position can be normally OPEN (N/O) or normally CLOSED (N/C).
