With electronic blackboxes, we’re now used to the idea that a machine can be too small to see but still big enough to work. That’s harder to understand, much less believe, when we’re looking at relatively large-scale things like cylinders bored into an engine block. Where is there any room for the simplest complication? These certainly seem like the very kind of machinery where everything is plain and simple, out in the open.
